Spongebob vs. "A Tell Tale Heart" Blogpost Comparison

The episode of Spongebob has many similarities to Edgar Allen Poe's "A Tell Tale Heart". The boots that Mr. Krabs bought for his daughter had a horrendous squeaking sound whenever someone walked in them. Even when Mr. Krabs hid them from his daughter, he could hear the constant speaking in his sleep, or even when people talked he would hear the squeaking. Similarly, in the short story, the young man confessed to murdering the old man because he could still hear the mans heartbeat. Another similarity between both the episode and the short story is the way in which the actions take place. For example, in the episode Mr. Krabs stole the boots from Spongebob while he was in bed asleep. In the short story, the young man commits the murder while the old man is in bed as well, except the old man wakes up and shrieks before he is killed. The way in which the "items" were disposed of in the story were very much the same. In the episode of Spongebob, Eugene Krabs takes the boots and hides them underneath the floorboards of the Krusty Krab. Similarly, in the short story, the young man hides the dismembered body underneath the floorboards of the old mans bed. And lastly, the way in which Mr. Krabs and the young man confessed is the exact same. The heart beat drives the young man to go crazy and then he confesses in the short story, and the constant squeaking sound causes Mr. Krabs to eventually confess as well.
